Christ Cries: “Mine!” - Graduation and Beyond

As we stand alongside our children, and we look to the future, there is excitement, anticipation, and perhaps trepidation as we contemplate next steps and what the future may hold. Even as we partner together as parents and school, striving to cultivate generations of joyful disciples of Christ, rooted in Truth, to the glory of God, we ask ourselves: what does this…

Respect

Respect is the fundamental posture we want our students to have toward teachers and toward one another. It involves listening well, being attentive, responsive, and showing honor. Conversely, disrespect is one of the worst things a student can do, whether that is speaking with a snarky tone, ignoring instruction, or being defiant. Respect is mentioned 11 times in the Summit (Parent-Student) Handbook and it is a core value we expect of our students and want to instill in them. Our English word “respect” comes from Latin…

Giving (Student Post)

As a Christian, the Christmas season is a holy time when we celebrate the birth of our Lord. It is also a time when the world comes alive and is full of so many different wonderful things. As a kid, it can be one of the most exciting seasons. School is out and the streets are fully decked and covered with bright lights. Of course, for many, the most exciting part is the presents under the Christmas tree just waiting to be opened. School was out and the streets were fully decked out and covered with bright lights. However, at least for my family, I find that although we all love getting gifts and excitedly wait to open them, we actually much more enjoy giving gifts to each other. There’s nothing quite like…

The Value of a Sparrow (Student Post)

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt lonely or unnoticed? In Matthew 10:29-31, Jesus told his disciples, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” This is an important and applicable passage that is extremely helpful in many situations. First of all…

Proverbs 28 begins, “The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.”

Not all lions are born bold. You may remember the one in Oz, who sang:

Joy - A Core Value

In a world often overshadowed by fleeting pleasures and superficial happiness, the concept of 'joy' as presented in the Scriptures offers a profound and enduring alternative. At Summit Classical Christian School, we desire to have a Biblical understanding of joy, its roots, and how it can be genuinely experienced in our lives. The journey to understanding joy begins with Psalm 16:11, which highlights the core of true joy: being in the presence of the Lord. This verse not only identifies the source of joy but also…

Our Pillars of Integrity

At Summit Classical Christian School, we prioritize not just academic excellence, but also the formation of virtuous character in our students. One of the most important virtues we aim to instill is that of integrity. In today's society, where so much seems to be a struggle for power, success, or recognition, integrity stands as a beacon of true leadership and strength. Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles, guiding us to do the right thing even when no one is watching. As part of our commitment to discipleship, Summit aligns each student with one of four 'houses', each named after a Biblical figure: Jonathan, Moses, Elijah, and Daniel. These individuals were not only significant in Biblical history but also…

Love: A Core Value

At Summit Classical Christian School, we take immense pride in molding the characters of our students alongside their intellectual and spiritual growth. One of the core values that serves as a cornerstone in our community is Love. It's a virtue that is universal, timeless, and rooted in Christ. Love is deeply embedded in the fabric of our teaching methodologies, school activities, and family partnership. It serves as an anchor that connects us all, irrespective of age, class, or house affiliation—be it Jonathan, Moses, Elijah, or Daniel. It is exciting to see how this cardinal virtue is put into practice within our houses and throughout…

Why Latin?

Why Latin?

Every year that I teach Latin, I begin the class with the question, “Why Latin?” I have to answer for the students because they have no clue. I fascinate them with facts like, 80% of all English vocabulary come from Greek or Latin and Latin is a gateway to all the romance languages. I have even taped a dollar bill to the board and told the students that I would give it to the student who could tell me what “e pluribus unum” means. That usually generates some excitement. However, every year, without fail, we will get half-way through the school year, and some student who thinks himself to be terribly clever, will raise his hand and ask, “Why do we even learn Latin anyway? Isn’t it a dead language?” I sigh and contemplate whether…

Embracing the Fresh Start of a School Year

As we stand on the threshold of a new school year, my heart is filled with excitement and anticipation. As a staff we are gearing up to provide and encourage an environment of new opportunities of growing in wisdom and closeness to our Savior. This year is no different, and yet it feels exceptional in the boundless possibilities it presents. We have all been through challenges, but as we embark…
