Headmaster Blog for June 17, 2013: Introducing Deidre Cairns

Once again I’m very happy to introduce to you another new member of the Summit faculty. Deidre Cairns has been invited to join the teaching team as our fifth grade instructor and her nomination was recently confirmed by a unanimous vote of the Summit board.

Deidre has her BA in English Secondary Education from Western Washington University and holds her state teaching certificate. She has 3 years of classroom teaching experience and 8 years of experience homeschooling using the Classical Christian Model of Education.  Deidre has been deeply involved with Summit both as a parent—Dawson (6th) and Aidan (3rd) are both students, and as a much-lauded substitute teacher. Along with daughter Chloe, Deidre has also been a tremendous help throughout the year as a recess supervisor.

As I have said before, Summit is not a place so much as it is a fabric of relationships. These are relationships that have a redemptive end; that we are drawn closer to Jesus for our being in this relationship, and that we are drawn closer to each other. We want this proximity to Christ and to others for ourselves and we want it for our children. Of course, the importance of our faculty in this fabric of relationships cannot be overstated. Our teachers are the very synapse through which this [Classical] curriculum for life flows to our children to the end that they might rightly know the wonders of creation—and know it’s wonderful Creator.

Deidre Cairns will be a great addition to what is already an outstanding faculty at Summit. I so look forward to working with the teaching team that our good God is assembling at Summit. If and when the opportunity presents itself I encourage you to welcome Deidre and her family to our family of instructors at Summit Classical Christian School.

Heads-up for the coming week:

  • Summit families can order Scrip throughout the summer for rebates to tuition. Please contact Triona Anderson for details. This is a crazy-easy way to add bang to your tuition dollars.
  • Report cards for the fourth quarter will be sent out this week.
  • Be on the lookout for periodic emails regarding upcoming park-dates for Summit families.
  • Please continue to PRAY for our school: 1. That our good God will bless us; 2. That God will give the board and administration wisdom and discernment concerning facilities and staffing!
